I think it looks like what Janis Joplin would look like, if you were on acid.
I beleive the Salt creature is from the very first Star Trek episode... excluding the original pilot with Captain Pike.

If I recall correctly, the salt vampire was disguised as a woman. I think McCoy was hot for her. Or was that another episode?
The salt monster tried to drain Spock, but Vulcans don't have as much salt in their bodies to survive as humans do.....
Yep, an excellent episode. She is the salt vampire, refered to as a she simply because she impersonates a woman to get people to drop their guard, than whammo, rather than suck blood she sucks salt.
She's playing the wife of some scientist friend of McCoy's who's been living on a planet by himself doing research - McCoy used to have the hots for her, and doesn't know she died and is now replaced with the monster. Everyone sees something a little different when they look at the monster, so Kirk sees her as a middle aged woman, while McCoy still sees the hot young chick he remembers.
Since the guy knows he's banging this thing in reality, I always thought it was a pretty freaky episode.
